Hi,

I am looking at getting a Zotac Atom Ion dual core with 2gb ram with 2 usb tuners. It will be a Backend/Frontend that will sit in my lounge.

I was hoping then to run 3 more frontends off this machine, 1 (laptop) in kitchen, 1 (appletv through xbmc) in rumpus room and 1 (ps3 via upnp) in the bedroom.

Would be doing this with R6

Was wondering if anyone is running a atom ion as a backend/frontend with extra boxes around the house. Couldnt see any on the teirs...lots of frontends though (few people running single core atoms).

Would it be to much strain on a 1.6 dual core with all those frontends?

I think it would be fine even with all the frontends going, as that is more of a disk I/O issue then CPU power. You could even scrape by with just a 100mb network, but gigabit is just about the same price nowadays, so it's best to future-proof.

My backend regularly sits at a little over idle while recording and streaming to 2 frontends (but it is not an Atom system). Commercial skip jobs will be a bit slow on an Atom, so you may want to test how well it preforms that while you are watching stuff, but that is were the advantage of a dual CPU will show as long as you don't allow 2 jobs at once.

Thanks uteck. I only have a 100mb network but am looking at upgrading my modem soon so will look at one with a gigabit network.

Thanks for the advice.
