Hi,

I know this is probably a stupid question because of driver issues. But I havnt seen to many dual usb tuners and this would be great connected to my backend. Does anyone know if any work is being done to get these to work as a tuner for mythtv?

I have the Kworld DVB-T 399UR Dual DVB stick ($72 from msy) and it sort of works, but when the second channel is used, the first channel gets frequent regular corruption artefacts. I have seen some posts that put this down to "loss of sensitivity" on the first channel when the second channel is enable, but I'm not buying it. It looks more to me like loss of data as a result of either a driver problem or a firmware problem. The corruption occurs too regularly for it to be noise related.

I bought another single channel stick on ebay and use an RF splitter on my antenna and just use the first channel on the K-World.

My previous backend had 2 DVICO PCI tuners and I have found that the USB tuners suffer from transmission errors more often.

thanks for the info. Yeah i have a digital now tiny twin. There has been driver work on it but I have the same problem with the 2nd tuner. I just use the first one with aswell as a dvico pci. I find the dvico way more stable and less glitchy.

I will have a play with the Playtv in mythtv tonight as it just arrived today.

I would be interested in knowing if these USB tuners work any better under windows with their official drivers (because that would rule out any "sensitivity" thing if it worked on windows). Unfortunatley I dont have a windows box to try them on.

I have a freind who wanted a midia centre but did not want to use linux.
I maid up a mediaportal machine for him using the digital now. Both tuners are working fine.

On the PS3 Playtv front ive found out there are drivers that support it under linux are available - supposedly under divcom drivers. I have a driver patch... now i just got to learn how to use it.

WAHOOO!!!

Im not sure how many have tried this but it works i now have my Sony Playtv digital tuner hooked upto Myth and it is working fantastic. It has no worries using both tuners and so far so good.

Makes for a cheap usb dual tuner for Mythtv now.

Here is the steps i used.

updated the v4l drivers

sudo pacman -Syf v4l-dvb

then copied the firmware from the below site to my /lib/firmware.

http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Sony_ ... uner_DVB-T

Rebooted went into setup and there they were. Yeah

For the sake of another users experience/opinion, these work out-of-the-box with Linhes 6.04 provided you have the v4l-dvb and dvb-firmware packages installed
Code:
# pacman -S dvb-firmware v4l-dvb

The PlayTV's seem a good dual tuner replacement for something like the old (White) Asus u3100 mini's that has the same excellent DiBcom7000 tuner. Appears a little slower to tune or change channels, but otherwise no complaints.
