Hi,

I'm looking to build a dedicated backend machine to stream content to several frontends. I was wondering what other users recommended in the way of hardware (specifically motherboard + cpu)?

Ideally what I want to achieve:
* Dedicated backend with lots of storage
* Multiple digital tuner cards including hd content (some tuners will be the traditional pci type)
* The backend is not likely to be required to do much transcoding: ie. most operations will be broadcast -> disk -> multiple frontends over network.
* The backend is likely to be idle for long periods, so a low power device would be appreciated.

Any recommendations on architecture? I assume 64-bit is the way forward these days...
Any recommendations on harddisks, amount of RAM for serving hd content, cpu requirements (are multiple cpu cores likely to be used in such a backend setup? If not: are few, faster, cores preferrable?)?

Any advice on dedicated backend setups would be much appreciated!

Cheers!!
Mythman
