I am looking to build a new system as my is an old Dell Dimension 2400 and I need to get a new graphics card so I can do HDMI connections.

Here is what I put together on New Egg, I don't need it to do HD quality, I am just trying to get it to work with a newer TV that has no S-Video(old system has S-Video AGP Graphics Card).

Intel Core i3-540 3.06GHz LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor

Item #:N82E16819115221
$114.99

BIOSTAR Eco i2 Barebone Supports Intel Core i7 / i5 / i3 / Pentium (LGA1156) Intel H55 Chipset with HDMI Port and Remote Control

Item #:N82E16856115034
$129.99

OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Desktop Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820227582
Item #:N82E16820227582
$52.99

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16822136490
Item #:N82E16822136490
$64.99

Grand Total: $362.96

Does this look ok? I am trying to build one on the cheap (under $500) that is in the HTPC form, and it might have 1 or 2 front ends connect to it down the road.

Thanks,

Look at my sig. That computer is about 6 years old Your new computer out classes it in every way. My computer can Just bearly handle HD. Yours will do just fine.

You are going to want to read this post about that Western Digital Drive http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ight=green

:::EDIT:::I spoke too soon I just looked at the Mobo it doesn't have nvidia graphics. I'm not sure if LinHES will support the intel built on the Chip graphics or not.

As Matt said, some old AMD mobo's will work fine, as long as you have a Nvidia video chipset feeding the display.

My original AMD box was a 2.2GHZ dual core, with an internal geforce 6100, and it handled 1080i just fine. I see no need for 1080p at the moment, since I'm not doing BluRay.

If you want an intel board, look for a PCIe Nvidia GeForce 9800 or better. However it may not cooperate with the intel video chipset.

One PCIe card that I got was the Sparkle low-profile 9800. It has a HDMI port too. It's not available on Newegg, but this one is similar....

It may be expensive, but it's the vital part of your setup.

Just re-read your initial post if you have an x-video out you can convert it to composite with an adapter.

Won't I lose quality with composite? I use to use that a few video cards ago, and I remember it wasn't as easy/nice of a picture.
