Wireless adapter list for R6

Post subject:  Wireless adapter list for R6
I was not able to find a list of wireless adapters compatible with R6. It would be nice to if there was wireless N adapter that was inexpensive and involved minimal configuration work.

I don't suppose there is a command that would list the wireless devices compatible with LINHES?

I would recommend that you plan your purchase based upon compatibility with the kernel. For example, look for an adapter with native kernel support so you don't have to compile a module ever time the kernel gets updated. I'm not a big believer in wireless myself so I can't help you with a specific recommendation. Perhaps others can comment.

See the following two wiki pages for info as to which chipsets are supported natively by the kernel which again is the key:

Note that at the time I write this, the official LH kernel is version 2.6.28 and the official mainline kernel is 2.6.36.2 so there could be problems if your new card isn't supported in 2.6.28. That said, R7 is due out very soon and should included at least 2.6.32 if not higher.

Another place for model specific info are the reviews on newegg.

For example, a quick search of wireless N adapters and sort by 'most reviewed' gave me this card for $28.

@graysky: thanks for putting me on the path forward. Articles were very helpful. I appreciate that you implicitly understood that I am more concerned with process than the list or recommendation.

All my mobo slots are occupied so I will need to find a USB device. It seems that it would be wise to select a USB device with a chipset that is Archlinux natively supported (udev loads driver module automatically).

Or at the very least one that has a driver:

As you mentioned earlier: the former scenario would be better because udev installs the driver for you each time you upgrade the kernel.

Cool, glad you're fulling in information gather mode now. I have no experience with USB solutions indecently. You might ask over in the arch forums for a recommendation. Nice community over there.
