I want a setup that just works I have the computer below in my sig and I just got a hd homerun prime $199 at microcenter (jackpot!) and I have a usb wmc remote reciever I figure all I need is a videocard that can handle HD over DVI and a cable OR a HDMI card OR I hear they make a hdmi card that handles sound... help me out also how much more ram will I need? I figure 2gb minimum 3gb best (it's 32 bit) |

then what processor do you recommend for the price? I'm out of the loop as to how they rate processors. I've had very good luck with working pulls of slightly outdated hardware from ebay, I got that 754 setup for $50 complete. the idea was to eventually drop in a laptop processor, but it never got there I can build a I3 similar spec to my laptop for $200 new, but I dont need that much power to run linux |

If money is priority one, I would give your existing rig a try with a VDPAU enabled video card. Your going to need a new video card for a new setup in any case so you may as well buy one and try it with the existing hardware. I am using a P4 3.0GHz with a Nvidia 210 card and it handles HD just fine. |

well the setup I have seems to run fine in linhes, other than it didnt like my pvr350... big deal it's outdated, might use it for a front end for an older TV I already placed a bid on the cheapy ebay link I posted, but yes I will look into a video card as I also need to build a few front ends from some older scrap I have lying around (the old PVR, and a few computers I found on a craigslist add for free) |
