I came home again today to a shrieking alarm on my APC Back-UPS which had been going off for who knows how long. Thankfully my downstairs neighbors are away so it wasn't torturing anyone for hours as it has in the past, but even the time it took to shut down the system and power cycle the unit was painful.

Happily I found the apcupsd package in the extras repository and installed it, checked the configuration in /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf then used apctest option #6 to disable the alarm.

Many thinks to whoever added apcupsd to the 6.04 repository for helping to make my UPS a better household citizen!
