Post subject: | Front End issues after upgrading from 7.2 to 7.4 |
I've just upgraded from 7.2 to 7.4 on the back end with local front end. Also added a remote front end to the system. The back end is running great, but the local front end won't play the video correctly, back end without issues. In the the Mythtv --> Setup --> Video --> Playback settings, I've tried several different options. But either the video is slow and choppy on HD recordings or major pixelation (if that is the right term) is just to horrible to watch. (Some pixels just won't chance state, making faces look like they're melting etc.) I don't know if the Nvidia driver or Vdpau are setup right or have I finally met the limit of this system. I've seen some place saying the Vdpau needs to be compiled in MythTV, but since this is Linhes, and you guys are typically ahead of the over versions of MythTV out there, I didn't know if it applied here. Also, it mentioned the video player has be to aware of vdpau, but again, I don't know which player is being used. Before 7.4 the local front end would play back without many issues. Some pixelation but not much. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for what everyone has put into this system. There are posts that say GT610 at 1080i 60hz doesn't cut it but you didn't say how your connected to HDTV Another test would be pull the HD drive and run R8 stock install on a different HD. This will help narrow the software side of things and give you the latest vdpau There is also a nvidia vdpau testing tool http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=133465 |

I would be using the HDMI output to a Panasonic 720P HDTV. Video and Audio out to the set. The LinHES setup for Video is set at Nvidia auto, I guess I could see if I can set it to a 720 config. That may have changed when it was upgraded, or I changed it myself. |

Read this regarding the card http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2125679 |

I'm having the same issue with a separate FE unit, with a Nvidia ASUS 210 Silent. I'm just trying to playback TV recordings. I feel the vdpau isn't running correctly. When it's selected, the video breaks up horridly . I've reinstalled the front end but the problems are still there. I've tried looking in the Linhes, Archlinux, Nvidia web sites, but I'm clearly missing something. I'm not sure if I need to create an xorg.conf file, there isn't one in the /etc/X11 location. Should I create a settings for the mplayer, if this is the player used for playing back TV recordings. Is there a pacman nvidia or vdpau update or installation that is needed? Hopefully this card can work out for me. I don't mind spending a bit for hardware, after a point I've spent that much in time that I can't enjoy the LinHES. Thanks |

Sorry but the ASUS 210 Silent is also underpowered http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... ers/480190 |

So what would be recommended HDMI out video cards that also can play audio too? Prefer lower power and fanless if possible. |

I have had 4 different G210 cards and they have all worked in R7.x (and now R8) pushing 1080p to various displays. Some are silent and some have fans. The only machine I had to tweek the xorg for was because it was connected to a receiver that kept defaulting to 720p instead of 1080i. For that one I just forced the resolution in one of the files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ (don't remember which one, and I didn't have to do this in R8). For playback profile I use VDPAU Normal. My G210s all stumble on 1080i content when using VDPAU High Quality. Have you tried running xconfg.sh? |

I ran the xconfig.sh and the system still isn't right. I really seems the vdpau isn't running at all. Are there docs to help set this up? I even went through the process of wiping the FE hard drive clean and did a fresh install and then ran the xconfig.sh. Tried VDPAI Normal, and Normal etc. Brfransen, what type of CPU did your systems have? |

Do you have 1 box with BE/FE or 2 boxes ? |

One box is a BE/FE. Its CPU is a AMD BE2400 The other box is a FE. It's CPU is an AMD E35M1-M PRO. At first the BE2400 had an Gigabyte Nvidia GT610 Silent, later I tried the ASUS 210 Silent The E35M1 had the Asus Nvida 210 silent all along. I couldn't get the audio working on the HDMI from the E35M1 board, probably my missing a setting. The system seemed to work better under LinHES 7.2 than 7.4, but again it's probably my error. |

xconfig.sh is what the LH installer uses to setup the video drivers. My machines CPU's ranged from P4 to Core2, to dual core AMDs and quad core AMDs of various vintage. But I wouldn't expect the cpu to make much of a difference. If VDPAU is working all my cpus sit around 7% when playing back 1080i content. The biggest change between R7.2 and R7.4 is mythtv going to .25. I don't think there were any changes to xconfig.sh during that time. Audio over HDMI in R7.x was a headache but it worked out of the box for me in R8 due to the newer version of ALSA. Have you tried setting the playback profile to CPU decoding/deinterlacing? Are you sure the recording that you are using to test isn't a broken recording since it is happening on multiple machines? |

ALSA Sound via HDMI is a lot better supported in R8 it seems standard now. A lot of times poor graphics performance is due to a problem with the Nvidia Driver. What does this show on your system? Code: cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version Code: vdpauinfo and this? Code: cat /proc/asound/version Also when you did a fresh install did you completely wipe out the drive before you used the cd? |

Quote: The biggest change between R7.2 and R7.4 is mythtv going to .25 As I recall I seem to remember that when I moved to .25 it caused some performance problems for me as well. It was an older box. Watching and playing back video defiantly used more CPU than .24 did. As I recall I had to change to a lower resolution to get decent playback as well. |

Of course I've just tried playing older files and those on or before July 13 are running fine. I will reboot my homerun tuner, the AV PowerLine networking and try to record some shows. If there is anything in the above settings that need to be looked at, please let me know. Thanks for the input. Joe |
