Hi,

I need a recommendation for a new hardware for my frontend system with LinHES8.1

This is my old frontend hardware, that works with 8.1
Code:
hardware:       FUJITSU SIEMENS, ESPRIMO E, AND Athlon 64 X2 3800+
graphics card:   MSI PCIe NX8400GS, 512M DDR2, with vpdau in High Quality
sound card:    ASUS Xonar DS PCI 7.1 Audio Card (Xonar DS/A)
serial port:   own infrared receiver for the serial port, can use the Samsung TV Remote

My Mythbackend have 3x DVB-S2 for connection to HD Satellite Channel (HD720p)

In MythTV I use
-media library for watching recorded HD Satellite Channels and view family videos
-listen to music (use iTunes from Windows over Samba Share to import the music CDs)
-mythgallery to play pictures

I want to switch sometime from the Myth GUI to XBMC.

I check the following option to get a new frontend

1) Mini PCs, but most have AMD Radeon™ HD or Intel HD
Code:
-Mini PC with AMD Cpu and Radeon™ HD
ZOTAC ZBOX nano AQ01 [ZBOXNANO-AQ01-U]
-Mini PCs with Intel Cpu and Intel HD
ZOTAC ZBOX nano ID62 [ZBOXNANO-ID62-U]
Intel NUC
-Mini Pc with Nvidia
ZOTAC ZBOX ID42, ZBOX-ID42-B/E/J/U/AUS
ZOTAC ZBOX ID86, ZBOX-ID86-B/E/J/U
ZOTAC ZBOX ID45, ZBOX-ID86-B/E/J/U

2) Mini-ITX mainboard
Code:
ZOTAC D2550-ITX WiFi Supreme B-series
D2550ITXS-B-BE/J/U/AUS
GPU    NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 w/512MB DDR3
Intel Atom D2550 (1.86 GHz dual-core)

3) Micro ATX HTPC Computer
Code:
main board: SATA6.0 USB3,infrared receiver,  no onboard Graphics Card or nvidia
GeForce GT 610 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Low Profile Graphics Card GV-N610SL-1GI

Question: Have anyone hints to buy new frontend hardware or a order list with part numbers?

Hello

Currently I have two dedicated FE's

FE #1 Linhes 8.1
Asus ASUS AT3N7A-I
2GB DDR2 Memory
60GB SSD
Coolermaster Elite Mini ITX Case
Connects to LED TV via HDMI
Logitech USB Speakers sound way bettter than LED TV Speakers
Snapstream Firefly RF Remote #1

FE #2 Linhes 8.1 (my old backend)
Abit AN-78GS
Onboard HDMI Connection
2GB DDR2 Memory
60GB SSD
Connects with a DVI/HDMI Adapter on the back of the Mitsubishi TV
Snapstream Firefly RF Remote #1
Logitech k400 Keyboard

FE #1 mainly used to watch my shows via XBMC the LED TV is a lot smaller and so it the PC. Since I'm closer to the screen the amount of noise is important.

FE #2 mainly watch sports and movies in the Living Room. Normally via Myth Recordings after editing them (NCAA Tournament). This works great for me using analog sound via the tv speakers.

Hi, I give you a update for my installation
I buy the following new hardware for test installation of LinHES 8.1

Code:
ASUS F2A85-M PRO - Motherboard - Mikro-ATX -Socket FM2 - AMD A85X - USB 3.0 - Gigabit LAN
AMD A-Serie A8-6500 Black Edition - Raden HD8570D
G.Skill SNIPER Series - Memory - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB -DIMM 240-PIN DDR3 - 1866 MHz / PC3-14900 -CL9

ZOTAC GeForce GT 630 ZONE Edition 1024MB DDR3 64bit ZT-60415-20L
Interface:PCI Express 2.0 x16
GPU:GeForce GT 630
Memory Size:1GB
Memory Interface:64-bit
Core clock:902 MHz
Cores:384
Ports:DVI HDMI VGA
Passive , Low profile

The problem is, what I can only use the DVI-Port, the HDMI-Port do not work with my desktop pc monitor -LG Electronics IPS235- and not work with the Samsung -TV UE40C7700-

TV: Samsung UE40C7700
HDMI1(DVI) (works video AND digial audio over DVI-HDMI adapter)
HDMI2

With driver from LinHES 8.1 with version 310.19, the GPU is “NVIDIA GPU Unknown (Unknown) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)” but works over DVI.
With a newer nvidia driver 337.12-1 the GPU is “NVIDIA GPU GeForce GT 630 (GK208) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)”

I change the settings in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d with 10-monitor.conf, but no screen over HDMI

Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device0"
    Driver         "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName      "Unknown"
#   Option         "Monitor-DFP-1" "Monitor0" # Schema "Monitor-Portname"
#   Option         "Monitor-HDMI-0" "Monitor0" # Schema "Monitor-Portname"
    Option         "CustomEDID" "DFP-1"
    Option         "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-1"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier     "Screen0"
    Device         "Device0"
    Monitor        "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth    24
    Option         "Stereo" "0"
    Option "ModeValidation" "DFP-1: AllowNonEdidModes"
    Option         "metamodes" "DFP1: 1920x1080 +0+0"
    SubSection     "Display"
        Depth       24
    EndSubSection
EndSection

the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log show
Code:
Port DVI:
SAMSUNG (DFP-0) (connected)
CRT-0: 400.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
SAMSUNG (DFP-0): 330.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
SAMSUNG (DFP-0): Internal Dual Link TMDS
SAMSUNG (DFP-0): Native FlatPanel Scaling is supported
SAMSUNG (DFP-0): DFP modes are not limited to 60 Hz refresh rate
SAMSUNG (DFP-0): DFP is not internal to notebook
Name Aliases for SAMSUNG (DFP-0):
DFP,DFP-0,DPY-1, DVI-D-0

Port HDMI:
DFP-1: 165.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
DFP-1: Internal Single Link TMDS
DFP-1: DFP modes are not limited to 60 Hz refresh rate
DFP-1: DFP is not internal to notebook
Name Aliases for DFP-1:
DFP, DFP-1, DPY-2, HDMI-0

My old desktop pc with Windows 7 prof. 64-bit have the following hardware
Code:
ASUS M2NPV-VM AM2
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor
4 GB DDR2 Memory

So I build up a new Windows desktop pc with the new hardware
and build the „new“ mythfrontend with the "old" desktop pc hardware and the GT630.
I hope, that next version of LinHES can use the Raden HD8570D as video card.

Regards Lutz
