Hello,

I had my USB-UIRT working on my 7.1 config and am hoping to figure out how to get it going without too much hassle now that I have upgraded to 8.1. I have the hardware.conf that I was using, along with the lircd.conf that has the commands for my projector and receiver remotes and a lircrc file that defines a few custom lirc buttons.

I'll probably need to revisit the whole remote configuration anyway because it appears my old remote option won't work anyway. I had been using the old iOS MyMote app on an equally old iPhone. The MyMote app isn't available in the App Store any more, and it is not detecting my second frontend. I really liked that it had configurable screens, depending on what the front end was doing. It used the network remote control port to communicate the frontend. I could even configure buttons on the remote to simulate pressing buttons defined in the lircrc config.

But a bit part of this was utilizing my USB-UIRT to control the projector and receiver. So I could power them both on with a single click of my remote, as well as switching inputs to the Wii and back again if necessary.

Not looking forward to starting from scratch on this part of the project. I have a nice, highly configurable RCA touchscreen remote that I could probably get working using the USB-UIRT as a receiver as well as a transmitter, but that means getting it working.

Maybe I just need to breakdown and get an Iguana IR or Control IR.

I guess some guidance about pros and cons of each. Or maybe I just keep going about this the hard way of saving my scripts and confs, knowing that they'll get wiped out with every upgrade.

As far as custom remotes go this is the place to start

http://linhes.org/projects/linhes/wiki/Remotes

Keep in mind remotes are now using the kernel or Lirc, hardware.conf has been replaced by Lircd.

If you have a supported remote then Custom Remote Templates are supported to keep your changes safe.

If not you can open a ticket and have your remote added to Linhes

I thought I did that. I copied my existing lircd.conf and lircrc files and downloaded an image that I saved as preview.jpg and put all of those in a /home/mythtv/remotes/usb-uirt folder. However, nothing showed up when I select the "User" option in the LinHES Remotes config screen.

I thought maybe the issue was that this isn't necessarily a remote, but it's a transmitter. Do you configure a custom transmitter the same way? I'd like to not have to get a new transmitter, but will if that's what I need to do to get this working.

When I run 'lsmod | grep usb' I see the device listed: usbserial 30543 1 ftdi_sio
and I see the appropriate lines listed in dmesg, showing that the device is detected. I thought you needed the hardware.conf to tell Lirc what driver to use. In this case it would be the 'TRANSMITTER_DRIVER="usb_uirt_raw"'.
I had never use this to receive remote commands, only to transmit commands to my projector and audio receiver.

Hopefully some of this is making sense.
