Hiya

I am being bitten by this bug, which kills my USB HD stick, PCTV 290e, randomly every couple of days.
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72891

Is there any chance of a new kernel coming out soon? Is it possible just to get the fixed ehci driver?

I am missing my HD programs.

cheers

Paul

Kernel 3.18.2 is in -testing but you should probably update everything to testing if you want to try it. However, from that link it doesn't look like that patch has made it into a release kernel yet.

That said, you can compile it yourself using the provided PKGBUILD and associated files.

OK looks like patch is in now.

For the short term I will keep on rebooting daily and wait for it to get out of rc and then work on getting the new kernel sorted.

I haven't rebuilt a kernel before so there will be a bit of a learning curve. (But a nice project for these winter nights.

Thanks for all your replies

Paul

I would recommend that you open up a Linhes Issue

http://linhes.org/projects/linhes/issues/new

That will help the devs account for the bug

Looks like the patch for this made it into 3.18.4. I built and pushed it to testing yesterday.

Hiya

Thats great that it is there now.

Can I just upgrade the kernel from testing or should I do the a full upgrade?

Are there any other issues with testing at the moment?

cheers and thanks for all the great work!

I am running testing on 3 production boxes right now and have found it to be very stable at the moment.

I wouldn't recommend just upgrading the kernel and you probably can't only upgrade the kernel due to other deps.

The only thing I have seen in upgrading is fontconfig has some file conflicts. So do something like:
Change /etc/pacman.conf to core and extra to core-testing and extra-testing
sudo pacman -Syy
sudo pacman -S fontconfig
remove the file conflicts it reports
sudo pacman -Syu

Just pushed an update to lirc that will hopefully fix that.

Also, in the future, please start a new topic for unrelated issues.

In testing there are some changes to the nvidia drivers so I would like to understand why you had to do this manually. What nvidia card do you have? What does pacman -Ss nvidia show you now? When you reinstalled the nvidia driver did you use xconfig.sh or manually with pacman?

Thanks for trying out testing.
