I can't seem to get all the pieces together to get the IR Blaster working on my friend's Mythbox.

He was forced to get a new box from the cable company. We controlled his old box with firewire, but that's not working on the new one.
I was able to get the blaster working on this HD-PVR 1212, but it became unstable so we had to turn blasting off.

I did an update install to LinHes 8.4.2.

It has the HP version of the MCE IR receiver with a IR blaster cable plugged into the back of it.

The remote works fine for controlling Myth, but the blaster part just throws errors when I run a channel change script.
Like this:
Error running command: Input/output error
reply (1): Bad file descriptor
reply (2): Bad file descriptor
Error running command: Input/output error

Here is the output from:
> irsend LIST "" ""
reply (1): Bad file descriptor
reply (2): Bad file descriptor
reply (1): Bad file descriptor
reply (2): Bad file descriptor

Here is the output from:
> lsmod | grep lirc
lirc_zilog 24576 0
ir_lirc_codec 16384 3
lirc_dev 20480 2 ir_lirc_codec,lirc_zilog
rc_core 24576 15 ir_sharp_decoder,ir_xmp_decoder,lirc_dev,ir_lirc_codec,ir_rc5_decoder,ir_nec_decoder,ir_sony_decoder,cx88xx,mceusb,ir_mce_kbd_decoder,ir_jvc_decoder,ir_rc6_decoder,ir_sanyo_decoder,rc_rc6_mce

On a previous version of LinHes, (8.3 or 8.4.1 not sure) the primary error was "hardware does not support sending".

Alternatively, does anyone have any experience with the Iguanaworks usb IR-transceiver or the Command IR? Are they easier to install and get working?

I've been building Mythboxes for 10 years, but there's still a million things I don't know about Linux, so forgive my ignorance.

Happy Superbowl Sunday!
Paul

I had a problem with the blaster becoming unstable after the latest update.

Check this link for further information and a work around.

Thanks for that link, I was able to get the IR Blaster on the HDPVR to activate AND without the HDPVR locking up during a recording,
but only with the "send_power_new" script (step #10) found on this page:
https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_H ... ransmitter

The other channel change scripts on that page and other scripts I've collected around the internet throw errors.

The first channel change script on that wiki page gives me these errors:

do_connect: could not connect to socket
connect: No such file or directory
irsend: could not open socket: No such file or directory

Can someone post the channel change script they use successfully with their HDPVR IR Blaster?

Thank You!
Paul

send_power_new

Looked for but couldn't find the above in the mentioned link.

I think you were referring to the power on script if that is the that case, I can see where powering on the HDPVR after a startup would
basically do the same thing as using "blacklist lirc_zilog" and then loading the drivers.

The send_power_new is a script to test your IR Blaster's ability to turn off your cable box,
and therefore know which code set is needed to control said cable box.

http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/lmi ... _power_new

Here is a sample:
#!/bin/sh
echo 0_1_KEY_POWER
irsend SEND_ONCE blaster 0_1_KEY_POWER
sleep 1
...

Since I know the IR Blaster works after running send_power_new, I just need a simple channel change script that works with LinHes and the HDPVR.

Can you post your channel change script?

Thank You,
Paul

I'm still using the same channel change script that is posted in the wiki. You can find it here.

Mine throws errors when sending "KEY_ENTER" But that does not keep it from working most of the time. Somewhere along the line this became an invalid code at least with the new cable box they are using now.

So far I haven't been able to figure out that code actually is actually needed to send this.

Hope that helps.
