Post subject:  Virtualize backend on NAS?

I'm considering buying/building a NAS to maybe save a little power and consolidate all the storage around the house, including LinHES which is currently running 2) 4TB drives in a combined FE/BE system that's powered on all the time.

I'd also like to run a virtualized LinHES backend on it - does anyone have any experience or specific configs with this working on a NAS?

Looking at something like a FreeNAS Mini E+:

or the Synology DS918+ which seem like they should have enough horsepower to to handle it? Any thoughts or firsthand experience appreciated.

I ran my MythTV backend in virtualbox on my main PC for a few months. I had a network tuner (HDHomeRun) so I didn't have to worry about forcing hardware to only the VM. The only main problem I ran into was that I filled my hard drive. I stupidly made a few snapshots in VB, that meant that every show I deleted between my first snapshot to the running VM had to be saved to the Snapshot for restoration.
I was using a Raspberry Pi 2b running Kodi as the frontend and it functioned until I could get some new hardware.

Whilst I store my data on my NAS I have my BE virtualised on ESXi. It works great as I run HDHR, but my NAS I suspect would not be powerful enough with only an ARM processor and 3GB of RAM.
