I got as far as getting the fakeroot package. Then after running
makepkg -s again I get this:

Code:
[mythtv@mythtv monitorix-linhes]$ makepkg -s
==> Making package: monitorix 1.4.2-1 any (Tue Apr 27 18:46:46 EDT 2010)
==> Checking Runtime Dependencies...
==> Checking Buildtime Dependencies...
==> Retrieving Sources...
  -> Downloading monitorix-1.4.2.tar.gz...
--2010-04-27 18:46:46--  http://www.monitorix.org/monitorix-1.4.2.tar.gz
Resolving www.monitorix.org... 217.76.135.29
Connecting to www.monitorix.org|217.76.135.29|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found
2010-04-27 18:46:47 ERROR 404: Not Found.

==> ERROR: Failure while downloading monitorix-1.4.2.tar.gz
    Aborting...
[mythtv@mythtv monitorix-linhes]$

What did I miss? Or how do I get around this?

Tim

@tscholl - OK! Sorry, for the delay. Started a new job and don't have the free time that I once enjoyed. Anyway, I have a package that I think will work with 1.5.0 but my webhost changed their FTP info. Should be fixed soon and I will update my first post and upload the new PKGBUILD that should work. Stay tuned and thanks for the patiences all!

P.S. Don't be afraid to get on me about these things in the posts or via a PM!

graysky

Thanks for the update. I can relate to the time issue. Will keep and eye out for the updated package.

@nmcaullay - it's doing that because version 1.4.2 of the app has been upgraded to 1.5.0 on the source server and the host doesn't have the old file.

I have updated the package now to work with version 1.5.0 of monitorix and have also updated the first post in this thread. You should now be able to download the source files and build the package.

ah... i must have stuffed something up, as before posting above
* I followed the first post...
* then hit the above error...
* then posted the above message...
* then re-did it again, and it worked.

RTFM i think :)

Thanks, it works great.

I think i came undone from an earlier functioning monitorix, when either
* I updated using pacman, or
* did something stupid myself.

Either way, i think I copied over my original 1.4.x config file, which is not recommended when going to 1.5.

What is the recommended method to keep updated?
* build a package like in the first post, or
* use pacman to pull a prebuilt package?

Cheers,

Nathan

Hmm... do NOT use your original /etc/monitorix.conf file with 1.5.0 because once you restart it via /etc/rc.d/monitorix start it will fail to start due to one of the changes in the underlying code.

Well, the Arch way for packages not in the official repos is to download the PKGBUILD/tarball as I have instructed, and build the package yourself. I went back and forth over whether or not to post the pre-built package. The reason I did NOT do that is that pacman does not have any sort of authentication system for its packages like some other package managers do. In other words, I could put the pre-built package on the server, you could d/l it and use it just fine. BUT, if someone hacks the server, and modifies the package to contain something malicious, you will have no way of knowing (nor would I) if you simply installed it via pacman -U http://url.to.package.

Long story short, the safest method is to d/l the PKGBUILD/source files and build it yourself. In this scenario, you are trusting the software author (Jordi Sanfeliu) and the PKGBUILD author (me). The fact that I give you the md5sum for the tarball containing the PGKBUILD and source files makes it [the tarball] very safe in that no one hacked the server and modified the source package.

I hope that makes sense.
