Today I was playing around with the video resolution settings (CPU +, Normal selections). After I rebooted the machine the front end and X doesn't come up, it just has the LinHES background with 100% booting.
I would like to include what it says when I press F2, but I dont know where to find that log.

I looked in the dmesg, but there were no errors, but included it anyways.
Could someone please help me outta this mess. Let me know anything else I can provide, since I am really not sure where to look.

Thank you,
Mitch

look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log for the reason X didnt start. That may give you a clue.

I saw this in your error message. So it looks like you have an error in your /etc/X/xorg.conf file. Find the word "Copy" and you should find your error.

looks like youve nuked your xorg.conf.
experts will arrive shortly to provide guidance on how to regenerate... something like nvidia-settings.... Nathan

Ran those commands,
Upon reboot now the screen works as it should, but I have lost all mouse and keyboard control. Arrows dont work, NOTHING.
I still have access through SSH though.

Two possible ways out. There should be a xorg.conf.install file that was the original one made by the r6 upgrade. You could take that file and copy the Monitor Section, Device Section and Screen section of the r5.5 file over those sections in the r6 file and make it the xorg.conf file and restart x with "pkill xinit". (by the way, after doing 4 "pkill xinit"s without a reboot in between will hang the frontend process. You can unhang it by "sv restart frontend" for 4 more tries)

I still had the xorg.conf.install file and just copied it over and worked like a charm. Those developers think of everything!

Thanks for everyone's help!
Mitch
