What is the safest way to upgrade a comonent?

Syslog-ng is version 3.1 in arch, but 2.0.x in Linhes. I want to use the features in 3.1. ( Linhes could make a good home sysloger system, it is always on.)

I could change the repository, or there is the
pacman -U command.

Don't want to hose the working system.

Thanks!

(I also entered this as a feature request for Linhes.)

If you know what you are doing yes, you can change the repo (to an arch repo) and upgrade (pacman -Sy syslog-ng). However this can have a cascading affect and pulling in a lot of packages (not looking at the PKGBUILD for syslog to see deps at the moment) and hose your system.

Sorry it is taking longer than I'd like to have gotten things sync'd up with Arch. We'll get there!
