Finally found a fix: Apparently my install is screwed. /usr/shar/mythtv/themes/MythCenter/ did not contain all the files it should.
After I downloaded the mythtv package from the LinHES repos (wget http://knoppmyth.net/repo/i686/core/myt ... pkg.tar.gz) and untarred it to /myth/tmp/ I simply copied all files to /usr/share/mythtv/themes/.

Now I can select the MythCenter theme and the original issue is *almost* gone. There is still some text displayed where I don't want it, but it is not drawn over the recorded list. So that's okay.

Still wondering why some files were not where they should have been in the first place. And if these were the only files missing....

Anyway, I consider the issue solved:

* A 4:3 display with themes from mythtv 0.22 (pacman -S morethemes) will show the issue as shown in post #1
* "Modern" themes (e.g. MythCenter) work fine. Selection of themes is *very* limited for 4:3, though...

Thanks for your help everybody!

Jens
