Post subject:  output alsa to either usb headphone or soundcard output jack

Because I need to connect a wireless transmitter to outdoor speakers to stream Mythmusic, I have changed from OSS to Alsa over hdmi. That part is working fine in R6.

However, I am unable to get any output by connecting the transmitter to either a usb plug or via the green output jack of my inbuilt audio.

The transmitter can accept input from either usb or 3.5mm audio jack (eg mp3 player)

aplay -l shows the transmitter is card 1 device 0

Code:
# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC1200 Analog [ALC1200 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC1200 Digital [ALC1200 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Audio [SYNIC Wireless Audio], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

My asound.conf is
Code:
 pcm.!default {
       type hw
       card 0
       device 3
   }

I have checked alsamixer and there is no relevant device muted.

Suggestions welcome, including what should be the bleeding obvious. :)

Does Mythmusic currently play over the HDMI output?

What is your Audio device for mythmusic set to?

Check the setting in:
Service Menu / Mythtv Configuaration / Music Tools / Music Settings / General Settings

I think to send mythmusic to the usb transmitter the setting needs to be:

ALSA:hw:1,0

You da man! Works great. :D I changed the settings you suggested and now I receive the music to the usb transmitter (but no longer through the TV over hdmi).

Would it be greedy to ask if it is possible to simultaneously send the music to both the TV over hdmi and to the usb speakers?

In other words is it possible to tell ALSA to send the signal to both "hw 0,3" and to "hw 1,0"?

If that is too complex, it is okay. The main thing was to get music to the usb transmitter which now works. Many thanks.

Your welcome but I am afraid getting mythmusic to output to 2 different devices is beyond me. I guess you could try entering both devices in the mythmusic audio device but I think this is a long shot :?

Thanks anyway, I thought it might be a bridge too far. 8)

There was a fairly recent discussion on this on the myth users mailing list. It is possible and if you are just using stereo on all outputs it is fairly easy with mods to alsa.conf. If you are mixing s/pdif or hdmi with stereo it gets trickier. But it was all in the thread.

The wiki covers the mixed digital/analogue here:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Configuring_Digital_Sound

The user list discussion:

and
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... ers/463977?

Hope that points you in the right direction.
