Post subject:  watch TV, perpetual "please wait"

I am running Linhes R6.04.00 and it has been perfect until today. Now when I select watch TV the initial "please wait" message stays on screen and I am unable to do anything more apart from the Alt commands. While the please wait message is showing there is minimal harddisk activity. I then have to restart the machine. If I start a recording from the program guide I can watch the recorded program while it is recording but no live TV.
I have run out of ideas for now so if anyone can help I would be glad.
TC.

I would start by checking your database tables.

You can follow the steps in this thread:

This specific post in particular for R6:

Or you would prefer the all in one method then simple run this command as root:

Code:
optimize_mythdb.py

I had this too. Debugged like this:
1. quit the frontend
2. alt+x then start frontend like this:
mythfrontend -v playback

3. Alt+tab straight after you hit watch tv and see the debug messages appear. If you can't quit the frontend, go to the terminal and ctrl+c. Scroll back until you see anything relevant.

I found many, many errors about ttf-liberation not being there, so I installed it (manually copied the fonts into the font dir - /usr/share/fonts/TTF from memory) and the tuning sped up considerably. I also noticed that opengl is no longer being used properly by the frontend (due to another major feature being disabled in 0.24). I think it was the vertical redraw or some such thing.

I noticed several things wrong when I "upgraded" to 0.24. It was noticeably slower, tuning often fails or takes many times longer than before, tearing has started being a problem, and there is no longer any built-in DVD transcoding. Seriously thinking of downgrading when I get back from the US.
