Question for the xbmc users. I have 2 LinHES boxes at two different locations. Both machines are LinHES 8.1, have XBMC installed, and share the same hardware configurations.

The second box has been shutdown since October. I want to bring the watched shows, movies, etc to agree with box #1.

I'm thinking that If I tar the .xbmc directory on box #1 and over-write the .xbmc directory on box #2 both boxes will be in sync again.

I'm just wondering if there any files that might have the host name in the .xbmc directory structure that I need to worry about?

Thanks.

The problem was that approach is that you would have to keep them synced in perpetuity... this could be accomplished with an nfs share to /home/mythtv/.xbmc on the "server" or you could migrate the database from sqlite into a real mysql database. See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/XB ... e_XBMC_PCs

graysky,

Thanks for your input unfortunately a shared connection is not possible as the machines are 600 miles apart.

Basically we spend 6 months in where #1 is located and the other 6 months where #2 is. So I'm thinking that moving the contents of .xbmc would be a primitive but fairly easy way to sync as I move from one location to the other.

OK. Your use case is very different from what I suggested. As long as your filesystems that xbmc knows about are identical, the most simplistic solution is what you have outlined.

Thanks for the input I know it's an unusual situation. Would you delete the the existing content or just let the tar overwrite the existing?

I don't think that it would matter either way.

Better to rename the old one, untar the new one and delete the old one only when you're sure the process was successful.
