Post subject: | Custom Channel Icons |
Back in day I vaguely remember that there used to be icons for the Channel Guide and MythWeb. I'm not that much of Live TV viewer but I noticed the in R8.1 (myth 27) all of the channel icons are missing. Maybe those of us using an antenna for local channels are out of luck. If you would like to customize your channel Icons here is the answer. First, you'll need the names of the channels. Go to Mythweb Listing, and notice the left column has the names of all of your channels. Some are letters and some are channel numbers Second, You'll need to find some sharp custom channel icons. I was able to find a good one from 2006 that no longer exists. http://www.zap2it.com/tvlistings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ When you find one, Rght click on the icon Code: save as (;jpg) and save it to you download directory. I recommend to look for icons with .jpg extension first and .png extension second Third - Copy the icons to the channels directory Code: alt-x Code: cp *.jpg /home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels/ cp *.png /home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels/ Fourth -Stop mythbackend Code: alt-2 launch mythtv-setup. Code: alt-s select #6 channel editor sort the channels by number select the first channel in the list tab down to Icon: type the name of your icon. For example CBS-DT.jpg. Then return to the setup menu (exit then exit) Optional - Select #7 Storage Directories Create New Group Code: ChannelIcons path Code: /home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels/ I'm not sure this was necessary. Finally, Exit mythtv-setup, Restart mythbackend Code: alt-1 then Code: alt-x then Code: mythfilldatabase Your custom channel icons will now show up and they will exist on all of your remote frontends |

That sounds hard. I just ran mythtv-setup (or alt + s) on the backend went to "6. Channel editor" and tabbed to "icon download". Then I selected "download all icons". There were a few local stations it needed a helping hand searching for the right terms. Otherwise it found the big stations without help. I checked after re-boot the icons show up in the guide as well as the OSD. |

Matt Revised my original post to make it clearer. The custom icons that are jpeg are better but not always available. It is a bit tedious but the results are sharp. |

Big 10-4 I actually had to manually add news 13 to mine using your directions. Like you I rarely use live TV or the listings but now they are there. |
