I have recently been overjoyed with using Kodi as a music player. I find it so much better than the incomprehensible Mythmusic. I also loaded an app on my phone (Kore) which allows me to browse and control the music from my phone. The app even comes with a wol facility to turn the computer on from the phone.

Unfortunately I cannot get from myth frontend to kodi without turning on the TV and navigating with the remote control. I have tried issuing the command via ssh but always get the error that the hardware is not adequate for OpenGL. It is obviously trying to tunnel through the graphics which I don't want. I have tried on both the phone and another computer even using the -x switch.
Code:
 ssh -x mythtv@192.address kodi
Does anyone know how to issue a command via ssh that will start kodi just on the server?
Is there another way of doing this?

Does LH ship with an init script for kodi or is it meant to be run manually?

you can redirect the output to the tv by doing:

Code:
ssh -l mythtv 10.0.1.3 "DISPLAY=:0 nohup /usr/LH/bin/kodi.sh" &

i have keys set up to be able to ssh in as the mythtv user. change the ip address as needed

i get an error in the shell, but it seems to work

Code:
/usr/LH/bin/kodi.sh: line 3: stop_xss.sh: command not found
sh: lsb_release: command not found

[1]+  Stopped(SIGTTIN)        ssh 10.0.1.3 -l mythtv "DISPLAY=:0 nohup /usr/LH/bin/kodi.sh"

If you're just using it for playing music, I suggest mpd which has has iphone/droid phone apps. Mpd can run with mythtv and requires no extra steps.

Welner, that works, thanks very much. I'll do some reading to work out why. I too always get the same error, even if I start it locally from the command line.

Graysky, I see that mpd is now in the repository so I'll give it a try on a virtual machine. I am looking for a music player that does not rely on playlists, hence I like kodi and dislike mythmusic.

your initial issue is resolved by setting the DISPLAY variable to :0, which is the default display

the "command not found" errors are related to the path environment variable not being set when ssh'ing in and scripts relying on the environment being set up and calling other scripts without fully qualified paths
