Post subject:  Is this way to copy Linhes a valid method?

Hi,

When I had/have a running Linhes installation on a machine, combining frontend and backend, and make a ghost-image of the harddisk in the system (where Linhes is on, with all files and the recodings I did) and after that I copy that image to a second harddisk (as big or bigger as the original disk):
can I run Linhes after that without problems from the second harddisk (and disconnect the original disk)??
I want to do this on the same machine (so other hardware components are unchanged to the Linhes system.

Thanks for your help.

Yes that should work.

I don't think that will work because LinHES identifies the drives by their UUID I believe and just cloning the drive to a new HD may break some links.

I have used clonezilla before and I believe it creates the same uuid when restoring an image. Ive run into problems where it doesnt properly install grub and I've had to run it manually in order to boot. The other issue was that I would clone to a drive in an external usb case and since the uuid's were identical, if I connected the usb drive (for example to copy a backed up file) even after booting, it would remount random partitions from the usb drive replacing the sata partitions. This could easily lead to corruption, so take care not to do this.
