If you prefer the behavior of the Remote Wonder using the kernel driver and xmodmap over the behavior using lirc, the steps below will remove lirc and install the proper ATI Remote kernel driver. Code: /etc/init.d/lirc stop
update-rc.d -f lirc remove rmmod lirc_atiusb rmmod lirc_dev rmmod ati_remote cp /usr/lib/krp/Dragon/ati_remote.ko /lib/modules/2.6.23-chw-4/kernel/drivers/input/misc/ati_remote.ko modprobe ati_remote cd /lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13/misc/ mv lirc_dev.ko lirc_dev.ko.no mv lirc_atiusb.ko lirc_atiusb.ko.no reboot I use this with a custom .xmodmap for mythtv and a slightly modified .xmodmap for mplayer (to fix the volume +/- and MUTE keys). The main reason I like the kernel driver over lirc is that with the kernel driver, you can hold down a button and it will keep sending the signal. This is especially useful for scrolling through long lists of recordings or videos. |

You should note, there are two versions of the ati_remote.ko. The original which is there by default (as that was the one users wanted at the time) and the layout for the Dragon. The steps above will will replace the original for the Dragon's. |

Thanks for the clarification, Cecil. There are a few differences between the stock ati_remote.ko and the Dragon ati_remote.ko. First, mouse functionality is gone with the Dragon ati_remote.ko. However, some buttons (i.e. Channel +/-, OK, etc.) don't work with the stock ati_remote.ko (xev doesn't detect the keypresses). If you can live without the mouse functioning, the Dragon kernel module gives you the ability to use almost all of the keys. Hopefully this extra info will allow anyone reading this post to decide which kernel module to use. |

Thanks for consolidating this information for me. Just so people know, if they are in the process of recording, all you need to do is ctrl-alt-backspace to restart the X window session. Though, I'm not sure if that is even necessary. I didn't test to see if the remote worked immediately after doing this. Is there a "Dragon" version of the ati_remote2.ko? I have the Remote Wonder II, and would gladly give up the mouse movement that I never use in order to be able to use the "OK" button in the center of my arrow keys, along with the channel up and down.
