Hi guys,

I borked my R5.5 install last night (but I ran mythbackup first!). It was late and I wasn't willing to take hours to troubleshoot what I did, so I decided to "upgrade" to R5.5. Install went fine, but when the scripts were working with the MySQL db it bombed out because there was no connection to the mythconverg db. In the xterm window, there was a message about no connection to the mythconverg db followed by what appeared to be a help menu listing the default parameters of whatever script was running (i.e. default database [mythconverg] and maybe 7-10 others. It was stuttering (not rolling) in the xterm and was making my eyes hurt. ;) ) Sorry I did not take copious notes and the restore.log and Knoppmyth-run.log did not provide me with any insights. Since it was a db connectivity issue, I edited the bind-address in /etc/mysql/my.cnf to be the ip address of the box in question (not localhost as it was set) and rebooted. Things cleared up then. Just wanted to report in case anyone else comes across this.

I've had the same problem.
I think it's due to the fact that I have a separate frontend so the ip address of the backend in mythtv-setup is 192.168.1.10 and not localhost, so the setup script locks because it can't contact the db.

I also had to edit the bind-address and reboot (and complete configuration manually, which is something I was barely able to do after 4 years of Knoppmyth).

Anyway, now all is well and my setup is fully functional and stable.
