I decided to give webmin a try, and am having problems getting in. I have an R5A16 knoppmyth backend running on my small home net behind a firewall router.

I can ssh into the backend machine as root, (from inside my net) and turn webmin on and off. Once it's on, trying to access with a secure browser, to the backend machine IP results in an 'access denied' to the IP of the machine I'm ssh-ing from.

A internet search says some webmin setups will do this- so edit the miniserv.conf file to allow the remote IP. So I get 'access denied' trying to get the miniserv.conf file, even though I'm in as root.

Any guidance available ? Thanks.

Read the howto I wrote about getting samba up and running (this was pre-R5AX). There's a section about webmin that may help you out.

Thanks, Graysky...

I did a search that turned up 4 articles that mentioned webmin, and that one was NOT among them... (??)

Printing out, I'll try it out tonight.... :)

Thanks TJC,

I saw that one, but didn't know at the time if I could do it by ssh, or had to rig up a monitor on the backend (in a closet...) machine.

Using Greysky's notes I vi ed the IP on my access machine into the miniserv file, and then used the password change command. Works like a charm & I didn't have to dig the machine out of the closet.. Thanks guys ! :D
