I am new to Linux and wanted to make a PVR box to record TV shows and, play video games and have a good quality ripped DVd's into divx. Is knopp myth and easy to use and setup. I don't know how to edit in files in konsole or to start programs from the command line.

I would like to emulate Video game roms, NES, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Atari and Turbo Graphics. Are there emulators for these systems that would work with using Myth TV.
Also is there a way to display the Movie Poster for the Divx movies files, Like the way mp3's have the album cover.

I would be using an Athlon Xp 2800 with a nvida 5600, 512 ram, ultra Nforce motherboard and two 120 gig hard drives.

I plan an adding an external storage for the movies and roms. I would also be using direct TV.
Also, how do you navigate on the screen, keyboard and mouse or remote ??

Thanks,

Danny

looks like you have much reading to do, Grasshopper! :)

With no linux experience, knoppmyth is definatly the way to go.

To answer some of your questions,
you can install any emulator you like and it can be integrated with the front end. serveral con preinstalled with standard knoppmyth.

Move posters can be downloaded from IMBD and displayed on the selection screen.

To use DirectTV, you will need an IRBlaster. this is a device that will allow the myth box to change the channels on the DirectTV tuner. (search here for info).

As for navigation, its done usually with a standard IR remote. many also us wireless keyboards. there has been som recent chatter on this board regarding controlling the front end with a joystick (I dont personally see how this can be very effective, I have a remove with about 40 buttons and I use them all)

Read along wih the discussions and on The Pamphlet, and the wiki.

HI,
As beginner, start small and then graduate as the knowledge is collected. Take a box, add a drive, network, audio and install a version. R5C7 is very good for a start, R5D1 is good also but does have a fixable flaw if using a pvr-350 card.

You don't need a tuner to exercise the system and learn. The cost factor is your time and feel free to reinstall as many times as you may like to do. Go for the Xsecrets wiki, invaluable information at your finger tips.
