Hi,

R5B7 has been up and running for months. There was a power outtage but I also had recorded like 10 shows and now mythtv user account cannot log on. It tries and says GDM cannot write to your authorization file could not open up file for writing or you are out of drive space.

How can i fix this? I've already tried deleting a bunch of data from the command line as root.

would upgrading to C7 resolve this problem for me?

Thanks

At a guess you had a database problem and your mysql.log filled up the root partitiion. Login as root, stop the DB and Myth backend servers, purge the mysql log, follow Cecil's DB repair sticky, then try rebooting.

Hi,

B7 - check disk status, $ df -h you will most likely find the / partition at 0 space because of a log or two that has over filled.

There were a couple of items that need manual attention, one had to do with log rotating and the other has to do with mythlink.sh (pretty) The forum and the wiki both cover those problems.

Clean those up and you should be fine. Doing an upgrade probably would not be very smooth as I doubt that you have a current backup... I have not been able to remember to do a backup just before a failure yet either so don't feel bad.

What I suggest is get your current system back on line and cleaned up, do a backup, and wait a week or so to be sure all is well. Then maybe consider an upgrade.

Mike

This happened to me a couple months ago, my mysql.log and mythbackend.log had gotten out of control. I was able to fix the problem, but I think it came from over-using myth2ipod.

j0de: I was wondering if you happened to be using myth2ipod as well or using nuvexport?

I've since inserted a script to clear the backend and sql logs once a week to prevent it from happening again.

This should be done automatically anyway, but it's broken (on R5B7 anyway) and needs this fix:

login as root and goto /var/lib/mythtv and delete the HUGE (39% of
hda) *.mpg files that are there. Then you can reboot and login correctly.

My question is : what caused this ???

There is a known bug in the logrotate setup. This posting by validator contains the very simple fix:
