Well, this problem has cropped up for me again...
I'm not sure what is causing it, perhaps it is Xine as I have been working a lot with getting xine to play everything, updating the library and codec.

If anyone finds a good solution, please post it here. Until then I guess I'll live with it. It only happens when I restart the box or restart the gmd.

what dependencies does xine-ui install or update? This was the only modification I had done before this cropped up.

I'm running r5A12 and I have the identical problem only substitute 540x960. I tried running the command in the dialog box and go the same thing the parent got.

I have been running for 2 weeks without touching anything, except changing the ntp server I was using because it was hosing up every computer on my network (I run ntp-server on one box and then sync all my other boxes to it, and it failed for some reason.)

I have tried to catch any output by running mythfrontend -v all in xterm, but I can only get the error dialog after X starts for the first time (either on reboot, or after a /etc/init.d/gdm/restart, or a Ctrl_alt-backspace). So I edited the .fluxbox/apps file to log to run mythfrontend -v all > log.log and I found nothing out of the ordinary. I also tried repairing my database but that didn't help either.

From the different posts it sounds like people have done some minor change and this occurs. This would leave me to believe that it has nothing to do with these changes we've made and something to do with the scripts that run daily like mythfilldatabase.

I fixed the problem by editing the .fluxbox/init file. I commented out the line
Code:
#session.screen0.rootCommand:   fbsetbg -f /usr/local/lib/knoppmyth.png

Now I have no background on my fluxbox desktop, but I am no longer plagued by a popup message.

Something must be messed up with the fbsetbg (set the background wallpaper for fluxbox) command.

Hi,

In regards to the wallpaper error, I have found that as long as I stay away from firefox that I don't develope the error.

Currently running R5A16, installed extras, lpr, talk, mozilla & thunderbird using the default source list. I have done four upgrades to isolate the one bad guy for me. I don't know what gets broke so my only solution was the upgrade however with a backup before you start, it is really quite painless. ~ hour or less.

If firefox is installed, sources stable or unstable the wallpaper error appears on the next restart of the desktop.

Hope this helps someone.
Mike

I never installed firefox so that can't be the only thing that causes this problem. It seems xine may also generate it.

I think I'll try that. I never really liked the knoppmyth background anyway ;)

I'm also getting the exact same problem (except my resolution is 1216x684).

Not sure what it could be, but I was tinkering around before it happened. I've recently done:

apt-get install xine-ui
apt-get install ffmpeg
And I've also upgraded to the latest ATI fglrx 8.16.20 drivers.

In the mean time, I'm gonna comment out the fbsetbg line in .fluxbox/init as benjohnson suggested.

Would be interested if anyone has any ideas.

I came here looking for a solution to this problem. I've uncommented the line like someone suggested and it works fine now.

As for the cause, I'm guessing it's a gtk/gdm update. I've just started playing with knoppmyth so I've been installing and reinstalling a few times getting settings right and correcting dramatic errors that I've made and just don't care to fix. But I've seen this problem everytime that I do an 'apt-get install <packageX>' that grabs a newer gtk/gdm package as a dependency.

I'm fairly new to debian systems and apt. So if there is a log that someone can tell me to look at for package specifics for details, please let me know and I'll help as I can. Otherwise I'm just as happy to run without a background and call it a solution.

Chuck

Fixed it this way:

as user mythtv
edit ~/.fluxbox/init

change
session.screen0.rootCommand: fbsetbg -f /usr/local/lib/knoppmyth.png
to
session.screen0.rootCommand: bsetroot -solid black

Cheers,
Tom.

I use MC. the midnight commander. It seems like when I apt-get install mc and let it install I start getting there same errors so as a test I setup another machine and never installed the mc. I hink it might be the glib6.

I think you might be right. I also think if you follow my sticky post from the hints and tips section on how to safely install firefox it won't be a problem.

I started getting the error message too. I used "apt-get install subversion" a while back and it updated gdm and glibc6.

I don't know exactly what is causing the problem but it appears related to "apt-get install [something]" pulling in other changed packages.
