what does: cat /proc/bus/input/devices
output?

and can you paste the contents or:
/etc/lirc/hardware.conf

I have set up 4 knoppmyth machines for friends with nova-t's + the silver remote and never had a problem (after figuring it out on my own one obv)

I am also having exactly the same symptoms as Deathwish was.
Does anybody know what to do to fix it?

Sorry ,
That thread does not seem to cover the symptoms I am having or what Deathwish was having either.

My remote is not sluggish or slowly degrading.

There are a significant subset of the keys that work fine
but they are only:
- the 4 arrows
- the OK button
- and the numbers

None of the other buttons appear to work. When I use lirc-reconfig.sh
it doesn't seem to make any difference at all.

I noticed that someone mentioned that these remotes might not even be lirc based but some keyboard kludge.
Would anyone be able to set me on a route of action to reconfigure this sort of thing?

This is based on my post here.
Firstly stop lirc, by:
Code:
su
/etc/init.d/lirc stop

Then identify what devices are being used by the Nova-T card:
Code:
cat /proc/bus/input/devices

This should return something like this:
Code:
I: Bus=0001 Vendor=0070 Product=9002 Version=0001
N: Name="cx88 IR (Hauppauge Nova-T DVB-T"
P: Phys=pci-0000:05:07.2/ir0
S: Sysfs=/class/input/input2
H: Handlers=kbd event2
B: EV=100003
B: KEY=100fc312 214a802 0 0 0 0 18000 41a8 4801 9e1680 0 0 10000ffc

So from the lines above, in this case, you can see event2 is the one being used.

So firstly you need to change /etc/lirc/hardware.conf to use eventX, so in my case:
Code:
# /etc/lirc/hardware.conf
#
# Arguments which will be used when launching lircd
LIRCD_ARGS=""

#Don't start lircmd even if there seems to be a good config file
START_LIRCMD=false

#Try to load appropriate kernel modules
LOAD_MODULES=true

# Run "lircd --driver=help" for a list of supported drivers.
DRIVER="dev/input"
# If DEVICE is set to /dev/lirc and devfs is in use /dev/lirc/0 will be
# automatically used instead
DEVICE="/dev/input/event3"
MODULES=""

LIRCD_CONF=""
LIRCMD_CONF=""

Now you will have to do the setup of your /etc/lirc/lircd.conf by doing:
Code:
irrecord lircd.conf.new --driver=dev/input --device=/dev/input/event3
Of course the eventX depends on your setup.
Move the new lircd.conf file to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf .
You need to restart lircd:
Code:
/etc/init.d/lirc start

Use irw to check that your remote is generating the correct code, then as the mythtv user edit ~/.mythtv/lircrc to match the entries for lircd.conf.

Hope this helps.

Bruce S.

Bruce,
Thank you,
that was exactly what was required.

You are a gentleman and a scholar!

Thanks again,
