Post subject: | mbmon or lm-sensors support for Asus P5P800 mobo [solved] |
My research so far shows that mbmon does not support the Asus P8P800-se mobo. LM-sensors does support this mobo, but I've seen warnings posted that building lm-sensors will cause problems with LIRC support. So my questions are: 1. Has anybody succeeded in building lm-sensors on a knoppmyth distribution? (I'm current running R5A30.2) 2. Has anybody gotten mbmon to work with the Asus P5P800-SE mobo? Thanks! Marc |

Although I don't use it, lm-sensors has been included for some time now... |

Cesman, thanks for pointing that out. I played with it a bit but haven't had any luck getting temp readouts. The chip my mobo uses requires the use of a new version of "sensors-detect", which I downloaded and ran. The "sensors" program now seems to detect the presence of the w83627ehf sensor chip, but it does not output any temp readings. I'll do some more digging, but if anyone has any pointers on how to resolve this, the assist would be appreciated. Output from running sensors is below. Marc Quote: root@mythhd:/etc# sensors

I think some of the problem may be the version of lm-sensors. THe version bundled with knoppmyth is 2.8.7; I believe I need to run 2.10.0 for my chipset. I downloaded it and tried to build it and got the following error message: Quote: make: *** No rule to make target `sysfs/libsysfs.h', needed by `lib/sysfs.ad'. Stop.
I was not able to find a copy of libsysfs.h anywhere on the system, although I did find the directory ./usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.13.2-chw-3/fs/sysfs. Any idea where I can find the header file? Marc |

is this what you are looking for? http://www.lm-sensors.org/ Latest news: ΒΆ February 14th, 2006: 2.10.0 Released! See the CHANGES document for details. Go to the download page for download instructions. See the README document for additional warnings and information. Please note: You will need to install the libsysfs library (or a dev package from your distribution) is you want support for Linux 2.6, because libsensors now depends on it. http://linux-diag.sourceforge.net/Sysfsutils.html Brad |

Brad, thanks for the pointer. I did see that before. My concern is that the library already appears to be installed on the distribution and I don't want to accidently hose my system by installing a different version. So I'm trying to find the header file that is on the R5A30.2 distro. Marc |

After a bit more digging I see that the R5A30.2 distro uses version 1.3.x of sysfsutils; I need to be on version 2.0.0. The distro uses version 2.8.x of lm-sensors; I need 2.10.x. Similiar issue for i2c. Can I simply download, build and install the newer versions, or is there a risk that this will damage my install in other ways? marc |

Yes, you should be able to download and build. In fact, if you want to see a newer version, download, build and post detailed instructions. |

Sounds good -- I'll post detailed instruction once I get it working. Marc |

Done, and it works! I can now monitor temps and fan speeds on my Asus P5P800-SE motherboard. I recorded the detailed instruction in the wiki at http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... nsorsHowTo Thanks for the help! Marc |

You're welcome. It can only be made greater when folks give details such as you have. Thanks! |
