Post subject:  ALSA Problem

After a clean boot, my sound never works. I have an external SB Audigy 2 NX sound card (USB). If I run alsamixer after a boot, I get the following error:

Code:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

I can easily fix the problem by yanking my USB cable out of the sound card and plugging it back it. Then alsamixer runs fine. This is annoying to remember to do after a reboot.

Is there a way to fix this problem? Or is there at least a way to stop and start the USB service/daemon to emulate a yanking the cable out and replacing it? I've already tried:

Code:
/etc/init.d/hotplug restart

...but that doesn't solve the problem.

Hi,

If you run as root # alsaconf does it detect it?

No, it doesn't.

Hi,

I wasn't suprised that alsaconf didn't pick it up, but still was worth the try and now we all know for sure :)

Don't know much about the usb, however since it picks it up by re-cycling the connection, there has to be a way of telling the box to do that electronicly. Maybe some googling will give a tip as it seems to be a basic linux function.

I know the usb stuff can be funny at times, I have a camera that needs the same connector tickle.
