My Mythtv box was running fine for a week or so, but I decided to use my day off on the 4th of July to do a little maintenance (adding disk space and learning how to use LVM).

Well, as a side effect I just learned that the clock gets messed up with every reboot. I hadn't noticed because I'd set the clock correctly after installing R5C7 and didn't give it any further thought (other than generally wondering why I had to set the time twice during the install and still ended up with the wrong time after the install completed.)

So I followed some instructions from the wiki but the clock still gets messed up with every reboot.

So, as a crude fix, I edited /etc/init.d/bootmisc and added "ntpdate north-america.pool.ntp.org as the last line.

What really sucks is that I've never seen the new Doctor Who series and I just happened to find out that the SciFi channel was running a marathon yesterday morning. I thought I might give it a try. So much for that. MythTV caught just the tail end of it.

So, the moral of this story is to double check that your system clock survives a reboot otherwise it's not going to be a very good DVR.

Which instructions? These? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=ProgramGuideIsOff or something else? If that doesn't work can you set the BIOS clock to UTC from the BIOS config screens and have it hold over a power cycle? Does your motherboard battery need to be replaced?

BTW - If you don't know the UTC time off the top of your head you can just ask the system before shutting down to go into the BIOS screens:
Code:
root@black2:~# TZ=UTC date
Fri Jul  7 01:46:35 UTC 2006

Hi,

Not sure of what is occuring, however if you run as root # tzconfig and set yopur time zone that may help.
Also edit your /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh and add a
ntpdate -u north-america.pool.ntp.org maybe that will help. the ntpd has trouble resync of the time if it way out in left field.

You may want to do a check at the cmos level to ensure the time is utc.

Mike

With R5C7 you can just do an

update-rc.d ntpdate start 80 2 3 4 5 .

at a root prompt.

This will cause ntp to set the clock at each reboot, before starting the ntp daemon.
