I have just installed knoppmythtv and have two monitors to configure. one is inside my case and is working just fine at the resolution knoppmyth set it to by default. The other is my TV. I want to run them both at different resolutions and refresh rates.

How do I change the resolution on the signal being sent to my TV? If it involves getting to a shell, can you also tell me how to do that? I have not ever used debian or whatever it is that I'm using (I just used knoppmythtv's auto install mode) and I don't know how to get to a shell or what to do once I'm there.

Thanks :)

Start with the LinuxTips page on the wiki here - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LinuxTips

For how to set up the display built into your case search for "VFD" and/or "LCDProc".

The information you're asking for is readily available if you do a little homework.

thank you for your reply. I have done a good deal of research at this point for configuring resolutions etc and I have some questions.

Firstly, I have read the man pages for XF86Config-4 and have come to the understanding that if I have two "functions" (it calls them) on my video adapter they must both be defined as devices in individual Device sections. Same goes for my monitors in Monitor Sections at which point I bring a Device (video adapter) and Monitor together in the Screen section.

I am fuzzy on many points here even after reading the man for this config file a few times.

1 - Why do I get an error saying weight isn't found when I try to add a new resolution to the screen section for my small LCD? I added:

SubSection "Display"
Depth 32
Modes "320x240"
EndSubSection

2 - do I have to know the proper modelines to add to the monitor section when defining a new resolution for this monitor? This monitor's native resolution is 320x240.

3 - how does it actually determine which resolution to display? Each Display sub section has at least 2 resolutions defined (except for the one I added)

I think I'm to the point where I'm not sure if I am asking the right questions but I am definately making progress. Thanks for all of your help!
