Hi, The knoppmyth install went okay and configuring mythtv was clean. At least I can see the tv schedule and move around in the menu, start, stop both front and backend programs. For now, just trying to get LiveTV to work.... Runnning a 2.8GHz P4 with 1GB ram and 80GB drive with a Hauppauge PVR-150, model 1062. Standard cable; works fine with the TV, but when I plug it into the tuner card all I see on the monitor is snow and an audio hiss. Stepping through the channels has no effect As a newbee, I'm stumped. Unable to find any info or ideas on the myth website under trouble-shooting or faqs. Also what selection should one pick for the type of remote device? the "silver" option or the PVR-150 option. The remote is the version designed for the MS Windows MCE PC. Regards John |

Did you find this and follow the troubleshooting steps given? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV don't let the "black screen" throw you as it also says Quote: This page IS applicable if you are only seeing "snow" or "gray fuzz".

Thanks for the responses What is the tier 2 section? Have been through the setup several times, but now I'll spend some time going over the log msgs. John |

On the top level forum index "Hardware Recommendations" and under that heading "Tier 2". http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=9 Although frankly from a quick look I don't think his posting is going to do you much good unless you've got the same PVR card with the same model of tuner chip, and even then you could have other issues too. You're almost certainly better off following the troubleshooting procedure I pointed you at. Your problem could be as simple as selecting the wrong frequency setting mythtv-setup. Like that page says, there is no silver bullet or one size fits all solution, because there are simply too many possible hardware combinations and ways to misconfigure the system. |

This should indicate to you that, as it says, "PVR tuner type is unrecognized by the drivers" and that you should "see the CompileIvtv pages for instruction on upgrading your driver." and possibly "find a tuner type which is "close enough" and force that setting in the appropriate config file." castle wrote: Perhaps this should be posted to the ivtv group as well.
No, they already know about it and fixed this in 0.4.6. The problem persists with 0.7.0 because the tveeprom module is now part of the v4l mainline and the patch won't show up until the next kernel release. |

I've got the same issue but have model 1045. I'm so new to Linux that my heads spinning. Is there a work around until the next release? I've read about the "options ivtv tuner=50" change. Like I said, Linux is new for me and I would try this but so far I don't know how to make this change. Anyone willing to give me the simple steps to edit this line in the modprobe.conf file or is there another work around to get my tuner seeing clearly? |

Start here: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LinuxTips from there you want to go to the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles page. It would help if you tell us which version you're using and what the log files say about it. Once you've got a root command line session the directions generally include cut and paste level examples to make life easier. |

Good work, and that bit I quoted right there is the confirmation. As root do this: Code: echo "options ivtv tuner=50" >> /etc/modprobe.conf
And then reboot. Please pay careful attention to all the punctuation in that code snippet, make sure that you've got it exactly. Some windows browsers like to play substitution games with quotation marks. Those are honest ASCII double quotes from down near the enter key. |

Just point the next poor newbie in the right direction (the troubleshooting pages and a diagnostic approach) when they come along. Since this type of question comes up at least once a day you won't have long to wait. ![]() |
