Linux formatting procedures encourage you to to make a swap partition equalto 1.5x your memory.

Running rrd tools, I find my R5E50 runs inside of 512 meg, while I have a gig installed (overkill) Swap never happens

So next time format without a swap partition ? will this give Linux a belly-ache in other ways ?...

Might be ok with a 1GB memory system, but I've seen 512MB systems go into swap frequently.

Certain themes are real memory hogs. I use the Blootube-wide theme for example I have have swapped several times with 1 gig of memory. You don't necessarily need to make your swap 1.5 x memory but I would at least have some swap. You might find you need it if you switch themes or if you hit the right combination of processes.

Thanks Gents !
I just cobbled up a new 500 gig drive for HD, and tossed in the swap 'for insurance'
I may want to try the 'blootube' theme just to see if it makes my system do a swap.
