Post subject:  Samba Speed Throttling

I've recently set myself up with a Samba server to handle the storage for music and downloaded TV shows. I'm going to be accessing it from 3 WinXP machines, 2 KnoppMyth frontends, and 2 XBMC clients. It's currently up and running, I can access it and everything is running well except for one thing.

What i'd like to be able to do is limit the transfer speed that Samba is operating at. Currently if I'm watching a show or listening to music off of one of my Samba shares (mapped to a WinXP machine) and I start a large file move from another PC to the Samba server it takes up the entire chunk of bandwidth available and starves out my streaming media causing stuttering and pausing. I'm running a 100mbit network.

Is there anyway I can tell Samba to use say only 60mbit worth of my network so that there is some space left for other stuff? I've done some google searches on "Samba speed throttle" and other similar stuff, but have come up dry.

In talking with a friend..... I'm not sure this is possible (at least not without a crapload of work and firewall rules)

I think my solution is to migrate portions of my network to gig-e (or step other portions down to 10mbit).
