Post subject:  Out-of-sync audio in ota hdtv recording

In a few off-air hdtv recordings of primetime network programs, the audio preceeds the video by enough to be quite annoying, even humorous. 99% of recordings from the same source are OK.

What causes this and how can I prevent it?

Is there any way to correct out-of-sync recordings?

Thanks

I get it sometimes, particularly with ABC (which is 720p).
But a quit/re-start solves it. So it's not actually "off" in the recording, just the playback.

hmmm.... i've been getting this a lot too, especially with primetime ABC and Letterman. Unfortunately, i have yet to find a solution.

at the beginning of the program there seems to be glitch or hiccup, then the program speeds up for a couple seconds as if it's trying to correct an audio sync. but instead, it simply speeds out of sync with the audio. using the audio offset control never seems to correct anything with these programs.

HOWEVER, playing these shows in VLC works fine. there are still super minor jumps where the above mentioned hiccups were, but no audio sync problems. this makes me think that there are minor dropouts in signal that are really messing with the internal player. VLC just skips right over these, but the internal player tries to correct by speeding out of sync. the tell-tale sign of this being the case may be my problem started when i moved my antenna.

anyway... is this scenario a possibility and could this be your problem too?

I've noticed this too, even though my KM box is a couple versions behind. When I see the problem, I "jump back" by the default skip time (10 sec?) and the video and audio sync up again.

I usually just stop/exit the recording and go back in and it's fine.

Thanks for the suggestions. Before I cried uncle and asked for help, I tried most suggestions with no success:

1. Quit/restart the recording;
2. Rewind/jump back;
3. Quit/restart MythTV;
4. Power off/reboot.

Nothing worked. I did not try VLC since I've never used it.

Last night I was going to systematically re-try the suggestions and found that the program (from NBC) played flawlessly. So, as Thornsoft suggested, the recorded sound isn't out-of-sync, only the playback.

After giving up on the problem recording, I did watch, then delete, a few other shows, and recorded some new ones. Other than that, I don't know what happened to correct the playback.

When it happens again, I'll try a more systematic approach from the get-go and post any useful results.

Thanks again.
