I installed RealVNC Client on my M$ machine and received the error: failed to connect, Connection refused (10061).

This leads me to believe that VNC is not running on my install of R5C7. Maybe VNC is not on this version? If it is, how do I get VNC to start. I have tried search and came up with this:

/usr/bin/x11vnc -nap -wait 50 -passwd mythtv -display :0 -forever -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -bg

A search for x11vnc in /usr/bin was unsucessful...

I got this line of code (not really sure what it does) from here:

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=x11vncHowTo

This page is specfic to R5E50, a newer version. If I am feeling brave, I may go ahead an upgrade my RC57 to R5F1.

Again, as a newbie, I appreciate the support and counsel of the senior members and Cecil.

If you are using R5F1 then you can see my post in the Hints and Hazards for that release. If you are using an older version then after you install realvnc you first need to setup your password, type as mythtv user vncpasswd then enter. It will ask for a password.
To run just type vncserver :1, then from a vncviewer just use your.myth.ip:5901 or your.myth.ip:1 to connect to it. You can kill it by typing it vncserver -kill :1 from the computer running the server.

For R5C7 I use the instructions on the Wiki as you referenced.
There is a note all the way at the Bottom for getting and installing VNC on R5C7 you need to do that first.
It is 2 lines of instruction.

Then you need to go back up to step 2 above and follow that instruction. Choose one of the two Lines that are there it is your choice.

As I remember I use the first one, don't forget your password inserted in place of the "xxxx"

That is it, should just work from there.

Hope this helps

bigbro, thank you for the comment regarding the last line. In the future, I need to search on the version that I am using. Your diligence in reading is appreciated.

Also before you upgrade, make sure you read the R5F1 hints and hazards thread!
