I would like to be able to start a web browser, much like invoking an xterm with the keystroke ALT-X. If not, maybe I can invoke a browser from the command line of an xterm (not as clean though).

Is this already built in or is this something that I can add (my search found nothing)?

Maybe if I am feeling ambitious, I could figure out how to do this with the browser of my choice, such as firefox.

You can add another key shortcut in /etc/X11/fluxbox/keys which is very simple to do.

BTW - "Mod1" means the Alt key.

From your example, you mapped mozilla I did a whereis on mozilla:



I think this means that I need to install a browser, although I wanted to check before doing so. I have used Firefox on M$ systems, however, I am not sure if it would booger-up Knoppmyth (I was hoping to use a browser on the distro, that way I would avoid the possiblity of zorching MythTv). Any counsel on which web browser to use is appreciated.

As a newbie, I did not search on the right terms to arrive at your posting. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

You can safely install firefox (iceweasle) which will give you spell check while on the forum also It is smart enough to fire up iceweasle even though the call is for mozilla. You can also install mozilla-thunderbird (icedove) safely. There are few more apps that don't break the main purpose of KM including frozen-bubbles & gnome-games. As long as when you do an apt-get install xxxxx it does not remove files or update files then it is usually safe. The gnome-games does update three libraries however I have not seen any negative side effects, yet. I usually install synaptic so I can "browse" to find the correct names but install directly to better keep an eye on what is happening. Just keep a good current backup so if you hose the system, you can rebuild

Open Office has an issue with only a man page but the man page is part of another package which gives you a chicken / egg loop that will cause a lot of gas.. . so unless you are real handy, don't try that yet cause it will block any further additions.
