Just got two Nova-T cards and have been trying to get the remote working with not much luck.

I've seen a lot of mention of A415-HPG but these ones have A415-HPG-WE on the battery sticker.

I've tried most of the lircd.conf and lircrc files I can find but the only buttons that work are the directional keys + the OK key + all the number keys. Yet they work even with lirc daemon stopped (/etc/init.d/lirc stop) ??

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it :D

I have an MCE USB but thats a no go either, KnoppMyth tells me its a new one when I run the reconfigure.sh script.

This has been answer at least a half dozen times in the past month. If you have that many buttons working, you are already well on your way and just need to complete the mappings. Search for references to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf within the last month or two. There are a couple fairly detailed write ups about making the entries in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc match and adding new button mappings.

As for why the default mappings are minimal, it's like the old joke about opinions and a**es; "Everyone else has one, and they all stink." You can find DOZENS of examples around here without even trying too hard.

I have searched and I have mapped the keys but it doesn't help.

I appreciate that it has been asked millions of times before and I have read those threads and used the search on this forum.

For example, my lircrc file has F10 and F11 bound to Volup and Voldown, the keys in their match the name and capitalisation of the lircd.conf yet they still dont work?

Like I said, the remote works even without lirc even installed?!

Then you're missing something. There is still a process running somewhere and as a result it's using the old settings. Try rebooting.

BTW - There is a tool you can use to capture the codes and generate a new /etc/lirc/lircd.conf file. I forget the name, but a search here and on the wiki should turn it up in a few minutes. If I had to guess at the name it'd be something like "irrecord". Hey, wow! I was right! Doing man irrecord should provide enough information to get you started.

Deathwish,

Did you ever manage to get this working? I have just bought a Nova-T card myself and recieved the same remote with it. Seems only the directional and OK buttons work.

Hi,

That was exactly the same situation with mine, alas I gave up as nothing I tried worked, and believe me I tried a lot!

I had an MCE remote and managed to get that working instead.

Try exit the front end and run 'irw' from an xterm. Does it print out something relevant for every key you press on the remote? Or just the ones that work undr mythtv?

The Nova-T's handle the remote differently. They treat it like a keyboard.

Read my post in this thread:

Yep, I followed your post and it still didn't work. I even re-installed the machine from scratch to see if anything had broke, but nope. :(

Also, could you paste the output of: cat /proc/bus/input/devices

and the contents of /etc/lirc/hardware.conf

Im not at the machine right now but, no irw did nothing at all.

Like I mentioned somewhere else, I could uninstall lirc and the direction and OK button would still work fine.

Thats because it is still being treated like a keyboard. It will work like that unless lirc grabs it.

If it works like a keyboard, there should be no need to fix lirc at all!
Just get the damn key codes it sends to work.

I tried in MythTV with my Nova-S and silver remote, again the Direction and ok work but nothing else. When you go to setup and change keys, pressing the remote buttons doesnt seem to send a keypress.

I followed several guides (each in turn, with clean install) on how to make it work, and none did.

If it works like a keyboard why dont the extra buttons show up in the setup/keys part of MythTV when you press them?
