Post subject:  Absolute beginner - need help please

Hi, I am totally new to Linux and Mythtv. I have sucessfully installed Knoppmyth on an ABIT AT7 with 1gig Ram and 13Gig HD and a 1.2Ghz Duron and a Hauppauge Nova-T (9002) DVB card and FX5200 video card. TV runs fine and I love the functionality like pause/jump etc but it seems to record anything and everything I watch! Is that correct? Will the recordings be deleted automatically? Also I am having trouble with reading music CD's and the system froze and then crashed then killed the motherboard until I cleared the CMOS and re-formatted (NTFS on a windows machine) and re-installed knoppmyth. I know my system is very low power but was/am trying it out before bying any more hardware. I tried it on my Time computer but it was all the wrong chipsets etc and couldn't get it to work at all.
I also note that many solutions require code at the root (I assume similar to A> prompt) but my system always seems to auto boot straight to Knoppmyth - perhaps because I have so far only been able to turn it off by holding the power button for 10 secs so could you also tell me HOW DO YOU TURN IT OFF safely and properly??

From Cecil's Please read before posting. sticky posting (emphasis added):

This section of for problems or question related to installing KnoppMyth. If you have installed, gone thru the initial configuration and MythTV as fired up don't post here. Posts that don't belong will simply be deleted. Please search the forum before aking questions. One can also search the MythTV archive and the IvyTV archive.

As a result the senior members will not answer off topic questions posted here because Cecil will delete them as promised, making it a waste of time.

A word to the wise...

Please. 1) Read the sticky posts and pay attention. They've been made sticky for a reason. 2) Search the forums. Most of these questions get asked and answered regularly. 3) Visit the wiki and read the tutorials. People put in the effort writing them for the benefit of folks like you. If you can't be bothered to put in the effort to read and try to understand them why should we spend time helping you?
