get the knoppmyth kernel source from here ftp://ftp.knoppmyth.net/R5/linux-source ... om_all.deb
copy the config file from the /boot directory to .config in the root of the extracted tarball.
Make edits to boot.c
make oldconfig
make

Ok sooo I totally destroy my knoppmyth box. X can't start. But I still can access it with SSH.

Moreover it doesn't seem to load my new kernel as I still see Kernel 2.6.18-chw-13 however I edit Makefile. I changed the Extraversion to some else than -chw13.

Code:
node 0 totalpages: 130935
DMA zone: 4096 pages, LIFO batch:0
Normal zone: 126839 pages, LIFO batch:31
DMI 2.3 present.
DELL GX240 detected: force use of acpi=ht

It still forces acpi=ht so it doesn't poweroff.

What did I do wrong?

Ok I found a useful topic on the forum which shows how to move the new kernel image to boot directory. I did that, changed lilo.conf as explained. I rebooted and now I can't access my box with ssh BUT I tried "halt" and the computer did power off. I'm gonna try an auto upgrade and will let you know.

After upgrade everything is back but nopoweroff anymore.

How can I keep the new kernel and make everything work?

Greg you were right! I modified the lilo.conf with acpi=force but I removed apm=poweroff as well. Now it works. THANK YOU very much!!

Great! Perhaps you should post your append line just so there is no confusion about what actually works.
