to make my usb harddrive automout i proceeded based on http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9613 and added the line /media /etc/auto.usb --timeout=2 to my /etc/auto.master file. is timeout=2 to make it auto-unmount after 2 seconds of inactivity or after 2 minutes? i'm guessing 2 minutes but would like someone to confirm. thanks! EDIT man automount says it is 2 seconds! doesn't this cause the drive to constantly mount and unmount? or is it really safe? i'm assuming since tjc and cesman wrote the scripts in that thread, that it is safe?!!!!! just seems weird.... any comforting thoughts??? |

ok. since no one is answering this, i'll assume a 2sec timeout is OK. after all, this is not a very busy system and the mount will be short lived anyway. if the gurus think --timeout=2 was a typo and i should use something else, please let me know!!! |
