| Post subject: | Need updated rtl8169 network driver |
My friend is in need of a newer version of this network driver. It appears this is compiled into the kernel, so my original idea of recompiling the driver will not work. If I recompile the whole kernel, I may have to recompile ivtv, lirc, nvidia, etc. Any suggestions? |

If you recompile the same version of the kernel and don't have the name, then no. You'd not have to recompile additional modules. However it is possible that your kernel would overwrite some modules. In most cases, if the source for the module is available outside the kernel, download it and compile it... |
