Post subject:  nuvexport --> theora?

Does anyone know if there's a version of nuvexport that can export from mythtv to theora video files?

I looked at the source code for the version that I have, and it doesn't seem to have theora support at all. But adding it looks like a matter of adding or changing a couple of perl files. Maybe make it pull the strings on ffmpeg2theora instead of just ffmpeg. Has anyone else done this already?

I ask because we have a very small linux laptop which doesn't have the usual litany of patented codecs installed. I'd like to use it as a tv viewer out of network range. Experiments with nuvexport --> divx-avi (on my mythbox) followed by ffmpeg2theora (on my mac) had reasonably good results.

But that was too much time, too much work, and too many lossy transcodes. I'd rather go straight from mythtv to theora.

One alternative would be to buy Fluendo's gstreamer MPEG-4 plugins. But if I can use theora for free...

Contains a script which converts mythtv files and saves them to specified directory.

That has potential. Do you know if it honors mythtv cut points to remove advertisements?
