Post subject:  Preventing a module from loading?

I'm running RF27 on a frontend and need to prevent rt61pci from loading at boot time. I've tried everything I can think of, but it's still being loaded.

- added "blacklist rt61pci" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
- added a file called rt61pci to /etc/modprobe.d containing "blacklist rt61pci"
- commented out rt61pci in /etc/modules

it's still being loaded!

However, /lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13/modules.alias still contains:

alias pci:v00001814d00000301sv*sd*bc*sc*i* rt61pci
alias pci:v00001814d00000302sv*sd*bc*sc*i* rt61pci
alias pci:v00001814d00000401sv*sd*bc*sc*i* rt61pci
alias pci:v00001814d00000301sv*sd*bc*sc*i* rt61
alias pci:v00001814d00000302sv*sd*bc*sc*i* rt61
alias pci:v00001814d00000401sv*sd*bc*sc*i* rt61

which I'm suspecting may be my problem. I'm not sure whether to remove the lines or what?

Any help would be appreciated.

Why not just remove it or rename it?

I renamed it for now. I know that's not the correct way though. I just want to figure out how to do it at this point.
