Post subject:  filled a partition with log files again...

so I went out of town for a while and thought it odd when all of a sudden my mythbox web application wouldn't respond.

when I got home I found it frozen (again) so I thought the recoding partition was full (which is what happens all the time) so I manually rebooted and during boot a warning pops up saying the mysql partition is full. meh whatever I'll fix it when it boots, but once it boots it goes to the checkerboard X screen and stops at a warning saying "Xsession: warning: unable to write to /tmp; X session may exit with a" then it has an okay box, but it you push it it shuts down X then restarts X only to get stuck AGAIN!

any ideas would be appreciated as I really want to get this up by Friday when the new season of battle star starts

*edit*

forgot to mention I tried to ctrl+alt+F* over to a different terminal, but it wont let me for some odd reason.

and the display only wants to come put the TV out, none through the Dsub

Can you Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to a console login and take care of the space issue? If not, sounds like you'll have to boot from CD: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... AsRescueCD

When you run into operational issues like this the troubleshooting pages on the wiki are definitely one of the first places to look. For this one the WillNotBoot page on the wiki would have pointed you right to appropriate DiskFullError procedures. Which include the link above along with several other ways of skinning the same cat such as the BootToSingleUserMode instructions.

You did view the contents of the logs before clearing them, right?
