OK, this has only happened since going to 5.5 and it only appears once in a while.

While watching video on Mplayer, the audio goes "cylon" sounding. Not new cylon either, 'old school' digital cylon. Now, cool effect, but a real drag when I'm watching a movie. Now a quick skip back will solve and resolve problem, but... This has happened on my MFE, SFE, on vobs, apple trailers and I think an avi, but I haven't confirmed the avi. Outside of the trailers, these are vids that have played fine in the past.

Hardware is Hereand the FE is based on a ASUS M2NPV-VM board.

Anyone else hearing this?

Yes, I am getting this the first time watching a apple trailer. If I back out and re-play the same file, then the problem is gone.

I'm not sure what cylon sounds like, but I'm having some issues with on-board audio for the same motherboard. I am using a TOSLINK cable for digital. Are you using digital or analog? Did yours work fine in R5F27, too?

This happened to me every so often with R5F27. The solution was to drop at a virtual console (ctrl+alt+F1), su to root, and run alsaconf which unloaded, then loaded the sound drivers. After that, I'd go back to X (ctrl+alt+F7) and it worked just fine.

Hasn't happened since I upgraded to R5.5 (knock on wood).
