I feel stupid having to ask this question, but I can't seem to figure it out...with R5, I could paste into vi while connected through putty on windows, but I can't quite figure out how to do it with R6, and I'm not sure if it's a difference between the versions of vi, or a configuration issue, or something with the distro switch...any help?

I'm not using R6 but are you saying the use of a mouse right-click doesn't work?

im having the same experience... cant right click - insert into vi... also, vi creates a copy of the original file with a tilda (~) after it, which is a bit of a pain... there must be a config file in ~myth/.somethingorother

anyone got a clue?

I use nano currently, as i couldnt quickly figure this out...

Nathan

Oh yeah, that miserable issue. I remember opening a flyspray task about that and jams fixing it. It was issue #206.

Have you tried doing an update using pacman?

To paste text you can also try <shift> + <insert>

Sorry tjc, I keep forgetting to check flyspray when I'm looking for something. Everything on my system is up to date, but the mouse still doesn't work...since it's just a default settings issue, maybe it didn't change my already-existing settings? Shift + Insert, however, works just fine. Thank you!

and sure enough, changing mouse=a to mouse-=a makes it work just like I'm used to it.

The automatic fix may only apply to new installs. Old installs will need to have the change applied by hand.
I agree it's really annoying :D

The vim that is used in R6 tries to be excessively clever and handle mouse events instead of letting the OS and GUI do it. Most terminal emulator programs (be they Unix/X, MacOS, MS-Windows, ...) do provide some kind of mouse support if only to a coarse (say character) level.
